I recently tried the Altra trail shoes after hearing so many good things about them from fellow racers.
I was a little sceptical at the start thinking that a big shoe like this would make me trip a lot.
The shoes I got are the Lone Peak 2.0. My first runs were on the road 5kms on my lunch time. I appreciated the room for my toe box but was stiull not convinced it would go well in trails with lots of roots and rocks sticking out.
I then decided to try them on on a 2h trail run with the group. I was so surprised how the shoe handled the terrain. It was wet, muddy with lots of roots and at least half the run was exclusively on single tracks.
It is the first time I can try a new shoe and go running for 2h straight without having run a lot of shorter runs with the shoe before. No blisters, no black toes and most importanttly NO tripping.
I love the shoes!!! My shoes got wet and I noticed that water would come into the shoe from the bottom of the shoe (at the sole level) but the shoe drained and dried very well and quickly so I had no problems at all.
I am excited to try them for adventure racing as this would be the ultimate test for the shoes but I am fairely confident.
In a couple of weeks will be Ultimate XC which should be a challenge clote to adventure racing style.
As for now I just finished a 10k relay race (ran 2km) and despite the shoes being trail shoes I beat and crushed my pb finishing my 2km in 8:02. I can't wait to see what I will do with some of their road shoes :)
